Requiring Health Insurance Companies to Pay for Autism Related Services:

There’s a great editorial in the Globe (see link below) written by Doug Flutie in support of a bill that I have co-sponsored, An Act Relative to Insurance Coverage for Autism, House Bill 3809(ARICA). The bill will require health insurers in Massachusetts to provide coverage for the diagnosis and treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder, which currently affects 1 in every 91 children. I’ll be testifying in support of this legislation this Wednesday, October 21, at the State House at 11:00 AM in Gardner Auditorium, and am also pleased to sit on the Committee that will deliberate its initial merits (Joint Committee on Financial Services). For a quick overview of the issue please check out Doug’s editorial at: http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/oped/articles/2009/10/17/filling_the_autism_void/?p1=Well_MostPop_Emailed1 For more details contact me at James.Cantwell@MassMail.State.MA.US
