$2 Million Secured to Complete Dredging of Marshfield’s Green Harbor: Today we were able to announce the commencement of dredging of Green Harbor, with a cooperative effort of federal, state, and local officials. This was an added pleasure for me as I was able to thank my former boss, Congressman Bill Delahunt, for his tremendous work fighting to protect this funding while other projects around the nation were being cut. This project is important to the economic vitality of our region, as Marshfield and Scituate fishermen have a combined catch that account for the 4th most productive fishing area in the Commonwealth. For every one dollar of seafood harvested from the Atlantic an estimated five dollars of economic activity is created for the local economy. Completion of the dredging project will make Green Harbor more attractive to commercial and recreational fishermen alike, as the recent impediments to safe travel in and out of the Harbor were causing some fishermen to relocate their vessels to other ports, and was complicating the work of others who have remained in town.
